DICE, chapter 99 (reader)

Hello, there!

First the good part:

DICE 99

I must say, I am very glad at you readers. A late Thursday release and not one complaint in the comments. Even if I know we've told you again and again that mid-to-late releases would be the norm and early releases ought to be seen as freebies, the patience and restraint warms our hearts.

I hope the cause of the late release will be apparent to all. This chapter was very hard to redraw. Not the hardest so far, but page 25 cost Fábio longer than the rest of the pages combined. He says it is a sloppy job, so please shout him down in the comments telling him otherwise.

Other than that, it was the hardest chapter for typesetting so far, and the only one I did not do in just one sitting. I had to learn gradients and layer masks for good to pull this one off, as well as Special Filters. It also needed strong perspective and other manipulations.

(And of all of that for what? To have to listen to the anti-Eunju rabble's angry rants, because I'm sure they will go on overdrive with this chapter. Sigh…)

In any case, be sure to support the author by checking out the original. People inclined to venture into the realm of ugliness may want to have a glance at the latest official English release at LINE.

  5. I wasn't surprised when Dongtae refused to use the Enchant Die. It's consistent with his "Use Die for others" character and also, as of late, playing it safe(having no interest in collecting the Final Die and not confessing to either girl outright.) As for Eunju... Well, Eunju is doing what Eunju does, so need to elaborate on that. But one thing that's bugging me is why the hell Taebin can't remember what his ideal world is. I mean he isn't suffering from amnesia or anything like that and this memory wasn't that long ago. Furthermore, something like visions of your ideal world isn't something easily forgotten.

    1. Forgive me, but while Dongtae is a decent person, there isn't one instance in the story where he "used Dice for others". Unless you are counting Byungchul, and that was Dongtae's fault.

Well, okay, Eunju in the Long Day Arc. He used Dice to protect her.

He uses Dice on himself and incidentally (and that is the operational word) uses his power to protect people who aren't involved, but given that everything that is happening is a consequence of his lack of foresight, I personally ascribe all to self-preservation and common decency, nothing more. He is admirable for not becoming corrupted by Dice, but too much of a fool yet to merit further praise, at least from me.

In this situation, his tactics were the correct ones, because not only the others but he would be in danger if the Strengthening failed.

    2. Dongtae may just made a wise decision.
Does each enchant/strengthen consume 1 Dice? Not Dice points? If so, Dongtae has only 3 tries.
He should deal with the situation first until he's absolutely sure he has extra dice to spare, or a must to strengthen. He can just keep the hammer though.

    3. Rounds of Strengthening consume full Dice, not points, and actually the user can decide how many Dice they want to use. According to chapter 66, the more Dice you use, the higher the chances of your getting a powerful second skill. In theory, Dongtae could use all three Dice in his attempt.

  6. Btw, the latest chapter at Webtoon is where Dongtae given a chance to gain 26 Dice :O

    1. Mings, that is chapter 52. Dongtae has already earned, and used those Dice since that time.

  7. Fabio did a sloppy job? Where? I can't find it.

Also the mid-late releases are fine especially since these scans are so well done

  8. Thank you for the chapter,
But I have one concern I truly do not believe Enjuu will still love Taebin if she saw how he looked without the dice. So her speeches on "everyone is special" falls on deaf ears, i don't know it just irks me..

    1. The point is not being indifferent to looks. Everyone is affected by looks it's a fact of life.

So of course she felt attracted to his looks. What would make her shallow would have been if his looks made her blind to any wrong deeds. And we have seen it's not the case: she asked him out because he was sensitive to her efforts as a human being, something nobody had done before. So she grew to love him because he was (or behaved as if he were) a good person, not just because of his physical appearance.

So I do believe she would still love him (of course, not now she knows he lied to her all the time) if he lost his good looks after she knew his good nature. She was completely unprejudiced towards Dongtae and Mio when no one else was, so why should we doubt the firmness of her opinions until we see evidence to support that doubt?

    2. True, True, you're right. I feel I woud make the dice available to those in need in a controlled situation, Enjuu seems like she wants the dice gone, which she has a point but still...
